HKRFU INSURANCE POLICY
The HKRFU provide both a Death & Permanent Disablement and also Public Liability cover for senior rugby players and officials who are properly registered with the Union and participating in rugby matches or rugby training organised by the Union or Clubs and Teams affiliated to the Union.
The Union DOES NOT provide personal accident cover for senior players - in other words if you suffer an injury whilst playing rugby and seek medical treatment you do not have any cover under a Union policy. Players should consider the option of obtaining their own insurance, if they are unwilling to use the public health system or if they are not currently a Hong Kong resident.
UNDER AGE PLAYERS PARTICIPATING IN THE ADULT GAME
The International Rugby Board (IRB) do not encourage underage players to participate in the adult game.
A 17 year old player who wishes to participate in adult rugby has NO coverage under the HKRFU Youth insurance policy (described below), and comes under the Adult death and serious permanent disability policy (described above).
The HKRFU will only support an exceptional player to participate in the adult game.
In the event that a underage player wishes to participate in the adult game of rugby union the underage player form must be completed in full by the Player, Coach, Parent/ Legal Guardian, Club Chairman/ Club's Director of Rugby. Furthermore under no circumstances should the player play in the front row.
The HKRFU provides a limited amount of Personal Accident cover for mini, colts, girls youth, and schools rugby players who are properly registered with the Union and participating in rugby matches or rugby training organised by the Union or Clubs and Teams affiliated to the Union. There is also Public Liability cover for coaches, referees and supervisors.
The Personal Accident cover is up to a limit of HK$50,000 and can include medical, surgical, hospital and nursing charges but NOT physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatments nor Chinese medicine. In addition there is Dental cover up to HK$12,000. Injuries must be reported to the Union (attn: Head of Community & Development) within 14 days of the occurrence of the injury using the form below.
The injured player has to pay all incurred medical treatment fees first, and then reimbursement will be made against original receipts once submitted to the Union - please note there is a one off excess fee of HK$250 which will be deducted.
PLEASE NOTE THIS POLICY DOES NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR ANYONE PLAYING IN TERTIARY OR SENIOR RUGBY, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE PLAYER IS AGED 18 OR UNDER.
