I am excited and thrilled to announce our new DB Pirates youth program for the next 3 years.
Last week, a new HKRU structure for the youth competitions was voted in (please see attached). We are now prepared to set some solid foundations to build on our success over the years and actively start building on the current squad combined with our recruitment drive for our youth program for the next three years.
Part of the new model we are introducing is a comprehensive individual assessment for all the players at youth level. We will be working very closely with the HKRU and aligning our model with what is currently available with NAG. This new model is being used so we can track players progress from a best practices point of view and also track the individual progress of players over the season. We will be the leaders in providing this and we will also have our own club “language” playbook that each Pirates youth Coaches will have for the start of the season. We are heavily investing in the clubs future for the next 3 years.
We also understand that players all develop at different times and having the correct level of playing is important so we are looking at building a strong Division 1 and Division 2 team in each age group to cater for players of all abilities. S&C workshops, nutritional workshops, player positional workshops from some of HK and World Rugbys leading players and coaches will be held at Discovery Bay. We have looked at what our youth get currently and we believe we can deliver more and to a better quality to an international level.
We already have confirmation from Premiership clubs 6 professional coaches for the development of our youth program and to create a strong pathway for our youths future. We are also in talks with the HKRU to secure NAG coaches to assist during the season.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and executive staff it is my great pleasure to welcome all players, coaches, referees, administrators and supporters to the start of the 2014/15 Senior Domestic Season.
Carrying on from last year’s highly successful competition I am sure there is even more excitement in the months ahead.
I am delighted to report that Hong Kong Rugby will set a new participation record this season with 81 teams representing 17 clubs competing across 11 levels of competition for both men and women. Over 1,700 senior players will be involved on a week-to-week basis.
Following on from last seasons success, ‘Super Saturdays’ will return to the schedule in 2014, offering fans the opportunity to see all six Premiership teams in action against each other on the same day at the same venue. In addition to two Premiership Super Saturdays in the coming season, the HKRFU will also hold a Super Saturday event for Women’s teams and for the Championship clubs.
The official kick off of the HKRFU’s 62nd annual domestic season will be on September 27 with the first Premiership
Super Saturday together with a full round of matches in all the senior men’s and women’s leagues.
As ever, there is a busy slate of pre-season activities and international competitions, including the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series qualifiers on Friday and Saturday, September 12-13, 2014 at Shek Kip Mei, before our men’s and women’s sevens teams head off to South Korea for the 17th Asian Games at end September.
Last year’s competition reached new heights in competitiveness and support and the HKRFU looks forward to continued growth in the season ahead.
The Board and Staff of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union are pleased to wish all players, participants, supporters and clubs a successful and enjoyable season. We look forward to seeing you around the pitches of Hong Kong in the coming months.
Yours in Rugby,
Chairman, Hong Kong Rugby Football Union
